About Postgres Professional

The original publisher’s overview of Postgres Professional, its PostgreSQL work, products, services, training, and community activities.

Postgres Professional was founded in 2015 and brought together leading Russian PostgreSQL developers whose contributions to PostgreSQL are recognized by the international community. The company trains highly qualified database-system developers in Russia. Today it employs about 400 programmers, architects, engineers, and other specialists.

Postgres Professional develops several editions of Postgres Pro, a DBMS based on PostgreSQL, contributes at the database-core and extension levels, and provides services for application-system design and support as well as migration to PostgreSQL.

The company invests heavily in education, organizes Pg-Conf.Russia, the largest annual international PostgreSQL conference in Moscow, and participates in PostgreSQL conferences around the world.

Postgres Pro DBMS

Postgres Pro by Postgres Professional is a commercial Russian DBMS based on the open-source PostgreSQL DBMS and developed with enterprise requirements in mind. It is included in the Russian software registry.

Postgres Pro Standard includes all PostgreSQL functionality and adds extensions and patches, including some that have not yet been accepted by the PostgreSQL community. Customers gain access to useful functionality and performance improvements without waiting for the next PostgreSQL release.

Postgres Pro Enterprise is a substantially enhanced edition designed for demanding production workloads that require greater reliability and performance.

Both Postgres Pro editions are available with the information-security facilities required for FSTEC certification in Russia.

Use of either Postgres Pro edition requires a license. An evaluation version can be obtained free of charge for testing, studying the DBMS capabilities, and application development.

Educational institutions can obtain a free academic license for Postgres Pro Standard.

Postgres Pro Enterprise Manager

Postgres Pro Enterprise Manager (PPEM) is an integrated management console for Postgres Pro Enterprise.

PPEM provides a single console with a straightforward monitoring and management interface, supports common administrative operations from a web browser, and provides centralized access to database instances and databases. PPEM improves the productivity of database operations teams and simplifies routine administrative work.

Postgres Pro Backup Enterprise

Postgres Pro Backup Enterprise (pg_probackup) is a utility for managing backup and recovery of PostgreSQL database clusters.

The utility works with a centralized backup catalog, which can be stored locally or remotely, including in S3 storage.

It supports page-level incremental backups, backup-retention policies, data-integrity checks, point-in-time recovery, parallel backup and restore, compression, and the CFS file system.

Shardman

Shardman is a distributed relational DBMS based on PostgreSQL and enhanced with Postgres Pro capabilities.

Shardman is compatible with PostgreSQL, provides strict isolation and data-consistency guarantees, supports horizontal scaling, and includes built-in high availability.
